Hi,

In the best minced beef in the UK (often just called 'mince') there is beef, period! So, the cheaper packs are allowed to have a certain percentage of water, and you might find a small amount of 'cereal' of some sort to bulk it out, and there would probably be a higher fat content, and even grissle and things if it used 'mechanically extracted meat'. Fermented rice is certainly not an ingredient that would get into minced beef as I know it!

Keep up the good work, thank you.

I spoke to a World War II vet soon after I was assigned to my first ship, an ocean-going tugboat from the war. He told me his crew could always tell when there were weevils in the flour -- the baker produced nothing but raisin bread!

Hey Steve, No Worries...we do it without a slicer too.

Usually (at the International Operations Center, whew we usually just call it IOC we didn't use the slicer) we usually pulled the 'logs' out of the cooler and just eyeballed them an inch apart and slice them down thru with a large sharp chefs knife leaving the plastic on so it would help keep the hamburger together, then just smash the two rounded end corners together for a decent patty.

See if that works for you, if they are extremely cold or almost defrosted that really works great to cut and help keep shape.

Not a bad idea, Tyrone. I wish we'd done that in my early days as a US Navy commissaryman. We didn't start buying pre-made patties until I was in several years. We dreaded hamburger meals because of all the work. I'd use the idea at camp ... but, the facility doesn't have a meat slicer.
